I Hate GE Classes

Today was the first day of classes. I'm taking an upper division Political Science class to fufill the last GE credits I need to graduate. I'm not sure about this class. In three weeks, I need to have a 10 point bibliography and a fairly detailed outline to turn in for a research paper. Three weeks. That's 6 classes. Thank goodness it's the only class I'm taking (excluding my research, which I have to talk to Dr Girman about). It wouldn't be so bad, but it's a GE class that I couldn't care less about. My only hope is that I'll love the teacher and that will motivate me to be a good student. We'll see.

I got to see my first c-section last night. We delivered four Norwhich terrier pups. They were the cutest things.

We're waiting to here back about a one bedroom cottage in Forrestville. It's a pretty dinky place, but it'll be fine for the two of us, and I love the property it's on. It's hard to believe a place that small cosst $850 a month, but oh well. We're really hoping we get it, so cross your fingers.

I'm Confused

I don't really understand the whole thing with New Jersey's governor. Turns out he had an affair with a man. And....that's it? So what's the big deal? Why did he need to step down? So the dude's gay. Big deal. Yes, it's bad to cheat on your spouse, but, christ's sake, no one's perfect. And I don't think the issue here is that he had an affair. If he had an affair with a woman, I don't think he would have felt the pressure he felt. I think the issue is that he had an affair with a man. I think it's clear that we are still a predominately homophobic culture. It's sad really. Sometimes I wonder if things really will ever change.

This weekend was Steph's birthday. Sunday we had a BBQ and went out to bar's when midnight came around. Then Monday night we went out to the Belvedere and Jasper's. I really like the Belvedere, and I didn't really like Jasper's. They were blaring really bad rap music and there were a bunch of frat boys there. Not my kind of scene. Steph didn't do so well that night. She ended up puking her brains out. But she survived it. And she'll never do it again :}

The Rich Keep on Getting Richer

This is what happens when the upper class gets tax breaks and other government assisted help.

"The wealthiest 20 percent of households in 1973 accounted for 44 percent of total U.S. income, according to the Census Bureau. Their share jumped to 50 percent in 2002, while everyone else's fell. For the bottom fifth, the share dropped from 4.2 percent to 3.5 percent."

New job Update

So I realized that I've worked 4 nights at my new job and I haven't posted about it. It's going well so far. One of the things I hate about new jobs (especially jobs where you start from scratch on the knowledge level) is that I feel completly useless. This is all self imposed; obviously, my new co-workers aren't going to expect me to be too helpful in my first week or so, but I still feel like a bump on a log. But it has been fun so far. It's kind of hard, because I see a lot of cats and dogs in pain (I've already seen one cat die), but that's made easier by the fact that I'm doing something to help them (even if it is just sticking a thermometer up their butt). So yeah, it's fun, and I do feel like I'm catching on fairly quick. It has been really slow there lately, so that's helping ease me into the new surrondings.

As for my other job, one of my regular customers gave me a bottle of champagne. Rock. And I'm going to be making $8.50 an hour there, which isn't bad, but it kind of sucks that I couldn't keep my old pay rate. I didn't expect to, though.

We have a new addition to our household again. We got a kitty named Orion. He's a gray tabby, and cute as hell. He's a little shy, and still gets a little scared around us every once in awhile (and hisses sometimes too!), but he's getting better.

Okay, I'm tired, and I smell like dog. Time for bed.

This is the End

Today, my life as a full-time employee for Wherehouse Music comes to a close. I will miss my friends there and being surronded by music all day dearly. I will not, however, miss working retail. No more stupid corporate rules taht make no sense, no more uppity customers, no more black polo shirts. Good riddance I say. It will feel weird not going into that store 5 times a week (it already feels weird to not have my store keys), but it's something I'll get used to. I was always afraid that I would fall in the trap of working retail for life, because, admittedly, it would be an easy thing to do. Thank god that's not the case with me. I start my new job on Tuesday, and I'm stoked, and a little nervous. Until then, you can find me on my balcony, drinking a beer.

Cheers.

Amazon.com has a new store dedicated to the Criterion Collection series of DVDs. The stuff I want from there: anything by Kurosawa, Spinal Tap, and the Killer. Kurosawa films, no problem. The other two? Tap is $100 and the Kill ranges from $200-$300. Ouch. Still, it's cool that someone finally has a special section for these movies. My goal in life: at one point, I wouls like to see every movie that has a Criterion Collection. I figure, there's a reason that it has one, so I should probably see them.

So I think this may be my tux for the wedding. It's not set in stone, but it's a start.

Hint hint

So, since it's almost my birthday, I decided to post the link to my amazon wish list. Of course, no one is obligated to buy me anything (a pint would do), but anyone who does gets a free pass to heaven. It's in the bible. Somewhere.
