Resident Evil: Apocalypse of the Lame

The only thing more cliche than zombie movies this day is finding out that one of your closest friends and/or relatives has been bitten by a zombie, and you now must kill him. Seriously, name a zombie movie made in which this doesn't happen. Anyway, I watched Resdient Evil: Apocalypse the other night, and, well, not even Milla Jovovich could save it. It was just lame; bad acting, stupid script, etc, etc.

Speaking of dissapointments, Panda Palace sucks. Now, you may ask me, "Jason, why the hell would you eat Panda Palace instead of eating real Chinese food?" Well, disembodied voice, it's because it's located in the same shopping center that I work in, so it's close. Anyway, the food sucked. I wish I could say that it was because it had been sitting around all day and thus was not fresh, except that I saw it come straight from the kitchen. The sweat and sour pork looked like it had been stepped on; all the pieces of pork were flat like saucers. They tasted like they were barely cooked, as was the pineapple. I can't even remember what else I had, and I'll count that as a blessing.

Extended Education

I picked up a Japanese language program the other day. I decided to learn a new language to fill up the extra hours that I have now that I'm done with school. I haven't actually started yet, because I haven't been home the last couple of days, but I'm stoked about it.

In other news, for people who need to fill some missing gap in their lives by knowing all the trivial happenings of my life (which I really hope is no one), I got new shoes today. I've decided to go back to wearing Vans. I've been wearing DCs for the past 3-4 years, but I don't like any of their new designs, so I'm trying Vans again.

I've been playing GTA:San Andreas lately. I wasn't as excited about this one, because I figured it would be just about the same as Vice City. Surprise, surprise, it is basically the same. But I still fucking love it. I forgot how awesome this game series has been (at least since 3). I mean, all they really added was some mini games and character customization, but the game itself is so fun, I can't put it down. And I must admit, I do have a lot of fun playing pool in the bars. It's nice to have a video game that I'm excited about again.

I also recently picked up the deluxe edition of Nine Inch Nails' The Downward Spiral. I must say, it's the first remastered cd I've ever bought that sounds remarkably better than the original.

I just spent the day loafing around. It was Steph's first day of work, so I've been up since 6 (minus a two hour nap). I've watched a butt load of Iron Chef and Seinfeld. And the best thing is, I don't have school tomorrow, so I don't have to feel guilty for not doing homework!

We had Christmas at my grandma's house yesterday. It was good times. We had hella good tri-tip; it was marinated in ginger, garlic anc cilantro (amongst other things). THen Matt came over to watch Man U beat the snot out of Southhampton. That kid Rooney has got a hell of a foot on him.

Time to finish off Christmas shopping.

For I'm a Jolly Good Fellow

I'm officially done with school. Not for the semester. For good. Until grad school, that is. It's kind of a strange feeling to be done with school. I've defined myself as a student for 15 some odd years now, and suddenly, I'm not a student anymore. It's kind of scary. What the hell do I do now? I've had two college grads tell me that I'm doomed to be depressed for a little bit about being done with school. That's not the way I would have expected it to turn out, but I can totally understand. I have to find a new definition for myself and my life. Hopefully I'll fin done quick.

I just got back home from having drinks with Matt, Bert and Steph. It's Matt's 23 birthday. Cheers my good friend. Here's to at least 23 more (and it better be more than that ya bastard).

I'm tired as hell. Think I'll curl up on teh couch and go to sleep.

So we broke down and bought down and bought DDR so we can try to lose some weight. I ran the equialent of 5 miles today. Mega-nooch. If I can do even half of that every day, I'll be very happy.

We got almost all our Christmas shopping done today. I'm so stoked. I just need one more gift for my dad and mom, my aunt, Eric and Matt. Rock.

We saw Closer tonight. It was really good. And Natalie Portman is fucking gorgeous in it. That in itself would be enough to get me to see it, but it was a good movie too. Kind of depressing, even more so for a guy who's getting ready to get married, but I recommend it.

It's Been Awhile...

Okay. So I guess I've got a lot to update you people on. I'll start at Thanksgiving.

I worked on Thanksgiving morning. It was fucking busy. And almost every animal that came in was mean or skittish, which made it harder. For the second week in a row, we found an animal dead in the back. This one bled out its ass. Nasty. That night, we went out to Steph's aunt's house in Newark. It was fun, but I wish we would have had Thanksgiving at her parent's house that night instead. We had dinner their the next night, but I had to go to work and I missed out on desert, pool and poker. Thanksgiving went well though.

I started skinning my baboon that Monday, and the following week I gutted it. We got a lot of good stuff. We got the heart, lungs, liver, kidney and possibly the uterus (my prof had left for the day, so I couldn't ask him), but let me tell you, getting the stomach and the intestines out sucked. They stunk so bad because of the fecal matter in the intestines and the chyme. It was horrible, but went well after that.

We've decided to sell the Beetle. We really need money right now, and we'll get a lot more from it than my car. It's a really cool car, and better than mine, but the payments are also bigger than my current payments, so I don't know if I can afford it, especially right now. I'm a little bummed, but it's okay. I'll get a new car in a couple years. Mine still works fine.

We finally got "Save the Date" cards and invintations for the wedding. We got them at Target for hell of cheap; $40 for 100 invintations and $20 for 100 Save the Date cards. They look really nice too. We also got a space heater dealy, cause it's been freaking cold in our house.

That's all I can remember for right now. Time to watch Real Sex :)

What a Week

My week at work was kind of sucky. I worked 6 days in a row, because I was covering for someone (I do get a four day weekend next week), and cats really hated me. One of them scratched my hand, and another one bit my finger. So I have a nasty scratch on my left hand, and a small chunk of skin missing from the index finger on my right hand. So I have a day off today, but I need to start working on a paper for my political science class. Boo.

On the bright side, Steph's ring is almost paid off, and one of my credit cards will be paid off by next month. I'm so stoked about that. That'll be an extra $350 a month. Of course, that will go towards other bills, but it'll help a lot. Yay!

A Crying Shame

This week, a legacy ended, with the death of a very important figure in this world. He was loved by many, and he was hated by many, but none can deny the impact he had on people. I am, of course, speaking of Old Dirty Bastard.

I'm tired of working. I've decided that I don't have enough fun for a person of my age. I work about 45 hours a week, I go to school (thankfully not full time this semester), and that doesn't leave much time for me to have a social life. It mainly has to do with my work schedule; since I don't get off until after midnight, it makes it had to do something after work. So this is a cry, nay, plea! for my friends to help me (and Steph) have somewhat of a life. Thank you in advance.

Ok. It's been a couple days. I've avoided posting due to the fact that I know that they would just be pissed off political rants, and who really wants to read more of those?

So, what's been going on? Not a whole hell of a lot. There was a birthday party for Steph's dad this weekend. It was fun, I just wish I could have gotten there a little earlier (had to work). Everyone got pretty damn smashed, and I got to drink some Black Bush, so it was good times.

I read an interview with the director of Saw on Suicide Girls. The dude only had 18 days to film the movie, because the studio gave him a budget lower than Cabin Fever (another damn good movie). He had at the most three takes for each scene, usually only two takes. That's pretty damn impressive, especially since it came out looking like a fairly well funded movie. Gotta give props for that.

We saw Saw (...) last night. Holy fuck. That movie disturbed the crap out of me. It was a really good movie. It was a very unique role for Cary Elwes, and I think he did a great job. Go see it.

I'm getting really dissapointed with HBO. There's never anything on...and I have 9 HBOs. Sure, there's the Sopranos, Six Feet Under and Da Ali G Show, but as far as movies go, there isn't really much worth watching. And they aren't even playing any horror movies on Halloween...what the fuck? HBO is overrated.

The History Channel is airing a lot of good specials in regards to ghosts, myths, and other such scary things. Rock.

Playing Hooky

I'm staying home from work tonight, cause I feel like crap. Truly. I'm not just saying that to get out of work. I got car sick today...when I was driving. That's never happened to me before. So I'm chillin' tonight.

For those of you that don't know, I have Tivo. I love it. The only thing I don't like so far is the Tivo suggestions, it's a good idea, and it may not be working well for me because I haven't rated enough shows, but it's being funky. First, it keeps recording the same shows over and over. Spongebob is an example. Second, it seems to think that I love Nickelodeon (sp?) cartoons, since it's recorded every single cartoon on that station. This is probably my fault, since I watch ATHF, Sealab, Simpsons and Home Movies religiously. Thirdly, there's no way to tell it to not record things. Family Guy is an example. It's one of my favorite shows, but I own the DVDs and have seen each one a million times, so I would rather it look for other things to record. The weirdest thing that's in done by far happened yesterday. It recorded a nightly news broadcast show from the Arabic station. I don't know exactly what shows that I've rated/Tivo-ed to warrent this suggestion...apparently an unhealthy obssession with Seinfeld gives me a procleavity (is that the right word?) to enjoy foreign news shows. Go figure.

Tasting with a Grudge

We had a tasting of the food we're going to have for the wedding. In two words, fucking fantastic. We are enlisting the services of Park Avenue Catering for the wedding, and it seems like it was a good choice. The food we tried started off with a pretty basic salad, with scallions, radish and feta cheese with red wine vinaigrette. Very good. Our two dishes are going to be Chicken Feta (chicken topped with feta cheese, lemon-shallot buerre blanc, scalions, olives and tomatoes) and Roast Leg of Lamb with an awesome fucking sauce. Sides are asparagus with white truffle oil, roasted garlic mashed potatoes with asiago cheese (awesome) and cheese filled tortellini milanese. I loved everything, even the asparagus. The only thing thgat sucked was that we had the tasting at 10 in the morning. My stomach wasn't too happy about having lamb that early, but I still loved it.

That night we went to see the Grudge. It was really freaky, but a good portion of the scares were very predictable. But it was very well made, and I'm glad that the same guy who directed the Japanese version directed this one. One thing bothered me though, but it was more about the audience than anything. Warning: Semi-spoiler ahead (although it's nothing too big). In the opening scene a character commits suicide by jumping from his 5th floor apartment window. The audience laughed. Now, the scene wasn't done all cheesy like, and there was nothing funny going on, so this struck me kind of odd. I couldn't decide if the audience's laughter said something about our society, or if it was nervous laughter because they were expecting to get the bejeebers scared out of them. Either way, it caught me off guard. (I wasn't the only one. Some other dude said outloud, "Why are you laughing?). So, yeah, good movie, albiet predictable.
